Welcome to First Day Nursery Hackney

Our Hackney branch was acquired in November 2021 and transitioned to First Day Nursery Hackney in April 2022.

At First Day Nursery Hackney we are embracing the Curiosity Approach! We celebrate the power of curiosity and imagination. Our unique approach inspires children to question, explore, and discover through hands-on experiences and open-ended play. Every corner of our nurturing environment is thoughtfully designed to ignite young minds and encourage creative thinking.

Join us on a journey where learning becomes an exciting adventure, and every question is a stepping stone to knowledge. Let curiosity lead the way.

Our Pedagogy

Our pedagogy is deeply rooted in the Curiosity Approach, fostering a love for learning, creativity, and critical thinking in young minds.

At First Day Nursery Hackney, we see our children are natural explorers. Our pedagogy centers around harnessing this innate curiosity to drive learning. We create an environment filled with intriguing objects, textures, and open-ended materials, encouraging children to question, investigate, and engage with their surroundings.

We view children as capable and active participants in their learning. Our rooms are thoughtfully designed to stimulate curiosity, with carefully curated displays that provoke thought, encourage dialogue, and spark imagination.

We introduce "invitations and provocations," thoughtfully designed setups that inspire children to explore new concepts. These setups encourage questions, discussions, and investigations, promoting a deeper understanding of the world around them. Our staff nurture children's inquiries, guiding them to find answers through hands-on experiences.

Children are the architects of their own learning journey. We support child-led experience, where children choose topics of interest and embark on in-depth explorations. This approach empowers them to delve deeper into subjects that captivate their curiosity, developing research and problem-solving skills along the way.

Play is the language of childhood, and we speak it fluently. Our pedagogy integrates purposeful play into the learning process. From imaginative play to construction, our play areas are designed to inspire curiosity-driven activities that promote social skills, creativity, and cognitive growth.

The great outdoors is a canvas for curiosity. Our nursery features 3 outdoor spaces (Nature Garden, Fish Pond area and Play Space) where children can connect with nature, observe the changing seasons, and engage in hands-on exploration. Nature walks, gardening, and outdoor play provide endless opportunities for curiosity to flourish.

We have fantasic opportunities within our community including fortnightly visits to the local hospice to visit the elderly, Spanish lessons within our Pre School room and parent stay and play sessions for parents to spend time with their child in the nursery setting.

Partnership working - Key Person system, Famly App & Integrated 27 Month Check

Building authentic partnerships between parents/ carers and our staff team is at the heart of what we do.

Key Person system: Our nursery is dedicated to providing individual care for the children. We operate a key person system where each child has an allocated key person and co-key person. The key person is a named practitioner who has responsibilities for a small group of children, they are there to help the child feel safe and secure. This role is important for both children and parents/careers and it is an approach set out in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage).

Famly: At First Day Nursery Hackney, we use the Famly app, which allows parents and carers to access their child's learning journey along with key information about their day. Parents can share photos from home, provide daily handovers and access their child's account.

We also use the app to support the children's individual curriculum by giving personalised next steps and daily diaries which consist of daily photos and a summary of their day. This supports us in achieving an open communication system between us and the parents.

Integrated 27 Month Check: At First Day Nursery Hackney, we work in partnership with the Homerton Hospital. When the children reach the age of two, they will be offered an Early Years Review with the linked Health Visitor.

"

By far the best nursery in the area, my son absolutely loves coming here. Everything is so well thought out, lots of time spent in the garden and the food is nutritious and delicious. I don't have any concerns whatsoever sending my son as I know he's having the best time! Have recommended to all my Friends.

This is an exceptional nursery. The staff are so positive and nurturing. The rooms and grounds that the children have access to are much more spacious and light than other nurseries we visited in the area. We are so pleased with our choice to send our little girl here - she is really thriving. I would 100% recommend it to anyone!
