First Day Nursery Green Lane is our newest addition to First Day Nurseries having joined us in the Autumn Term of 2025. Green Lane is currently in a period of transition as we align with the First Day Nursery vision, values and ethos. We invite you to explore our other nursery sites to see the exciting direction we are moving towards.
Green Lane Nursery has been an established day care setting with strong links to the local community for almost 28 years!
Our aim is to give children experiences that enhance their learning, allowing them to gain knowledge and enjoyment through play and experiences. A big part of children’s learning is promoting their independence, having a strong self-esteem and building curiosity.
Our practices are grounded by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), providing a secure, safe and happy childhood by building the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.
Coming soon! Soon we will be embarking on our ‘Curiosity Approach’ journey which is an outstanding accreditation program. We are proud to be working alongside other First Day Nursery settings to achieve the accreditation. Curiosity Approach is a modern approach to early childhood education that emphasizes active learning and critical thinking. This approach is specifically for forward-thinking settings like ours, who want to create beautiful environments for our incredible children. Inspiring them to be inquisitive and curious, creating the “thinkers and doers” of the future.
To be recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Children's Care and Early Learning.
To provide an exceptional environment with a connection to nature and access to high quality authentic resources with the support of a caring, highly qualified team and a robust partnership with parents. We offer the EYFS with a holistic approach to children’s learning.

We respect everyone
We are honest and trustworthy
At First Day Nursery Green Lane, our pedagogy is centred on nurturing confident, independent children who are curious, capable, and eager to learn. We support children in becoming critical thinkers and active learners, while developing strong communication skills and self-confidence through meaningful engagement and exploration.
We place great importance on free choice, rich language experiences, and purposeful interactions to build vocabulary and deepen understanding. Our carefully planned environment encourages children to take the lead in their learning, make decisions, and express their ideas with confidence.
We highly value the use of our outdoor space and ensure that all children, from babies through to preschool, have daily access to the garden. Our practitioners provide hands-on experiences and thoughtfully planned activities, both indoors and outdoors, to support the development of communication, independence, and physical skills in a stimulating and supportive setting.
At First Day Nursery we strive to provide real experiences and multi-sensory opportunities for our children to access throughout the day.
Where appropriate we are swapping our traditional shop-bought toys for real objects and open-ended resources to extend children’s thinking and creativity. We understand the importance of independence and support our children to make their own choices as well as encouraging them to care for our resources and environments. We strongly believe in sustainability and re-use and recycle resources where possible.
At our setting, we use Tapestry, an online learning journal that allows our practitioners to document and celebrate your child’s individual learning and development.
Tapestry enables us to create an ongoin g record of your child’s progress through observations, photos, and assessments linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Once your child has settled into nursery, you will receive an email invitation to activate your account (usually within six weeks of starting). After activation, you will be able to view your child’s learning journey and development while they are with us.
Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to contribute to Tapestry by adding photos and stories from home. This may include family events, days out, or special milestones your child has achieved, helping us to build a complete picture of your child’s learning both at nursery and at home.
We operate a key person system to ensure every child receives consistent, individualised care and support. Your child’s key person is responsible for observing, planning for, and promoting your child’s development and progress, and will be your first point of contact regarding your child’s learning and wellbeing.
If needed, you are always welcome to speak to the room leader or nursery manager. We also operate a buddy system, meaning that if your child’s key person is absent, a designated buddy key person—who knows your child well—will be available to provide continuity of care.
The welfare of our children is absolutely paramount. We therefore take every possible measure to ensure their safety while at our day nursery.
We ensure parents feel confident about leaving their children with us: not only do we have a high ratio of quality Early Years childcare specialists, but we also have a number of security features built into our nursery.
Fire alarm. We have installed a smoke alarm system that is serviced regularly.
Risk Assessments. We have a robust structure of risk assessments that have been completed for all areas of our nursery from the premises right down to the little chairs our children sit on. Staff complete daily risk assessments on all equipment and areas to ensure safety.
Fully enclosed outdoor spaces. Our outdoor spaces are surrounded by high fencing.
A high adult to child ratio in all areas
