Child initiated free-play and group sessions,

This is a general guide to our daily rhythm at First Day Nursery. Your child's routines are subject to the sessions and setting they attend. The "rhythm of the day" in the Curiosity Approach refers to creating a mindful, flexible flow through the day rather than a rigid timetable, turning routine tasks into meaningful rituals. Instead of rushing through activities, our approach emphasizes slow, unhurried transitions to build relationships, give children a sense of security, and allow for greater independence and connection. Examples include mindful mealtimes, integrating life skills like preparing snacks, and balancing structured group times with free play. We ensure all children's individual needs and wishes of parents/carers are met by working with families to get to know each child well.

Continuous Provision to Learning

As children’s senses develop in the early years, they can easily become overstimulated. A big part of Curiosity Approach is making the nursery feel like home. We offer home-like spaces for children to feel safe and secure. Our environments provide children with neutral tones and soft furnishings to create a safe and calm atmosphere for children to confidently explore. Amongst the calming spaces, our children have access to a wide range of stimulating learning opportunities and a variety of resources to investigate.

Within each room there are quiet places to rest and reflect, communication-friendly spaces to talk with friends, areas designed to spark creativity and imagination, objects to question and count, sensory experiences to explore, and places to read and write. Our spaces are inspired by the Curiosity Approach.

Our outdoor environment is just as important as indoors. We see our environment as 'the third teacher' inspired by Reggio Emilia. We aim for children to have access to the outdoors as much as possible and pride ourselves on being 'all weather warriors'.

At our First Day Nurseries, we have space to play, explore and learn.

The rooms in the nurseries are as follows: Baby Room, Rising Toddlers, Toddler Room and Pre School. Some of our sites offer a separate term time only Pre School Room and Toddler Room.

Our garden areas are used as outdoor learning spaces with a wide range of learning experiences intended to nurture your child’s imagination. Children are given the opportunity for free-flow garden time throughout the day.

Part of our ethos is providing all children and staff with a clean and healthy environment. To maintain a clean environment all staff and children change from outdoor to indoor shoes on arrival.

What our families say

Our Connection to the Community

At First Day Nursery, we believe outings are a gateway to curiosity and exploration. Children naturally possess an innate sense of wonder, and our outings are designed to nurture and encourage that curiosity. By exposing them to new places, ideas, and experiences, we inspire them to ask questions, seek answers, and develop a lifelong love for learning.

Through our local outings to the fire station, dentist, library, learning to use public transport and visits to the local shops, we ensure children are connecting to their community and understanding the world they live in.

Supporting our local community is valued highly at First Day Nursery. We work in partnership with local independent businesses to promote their services to our parents and carers, providing parents with relevant information to access local services.

At First Day Nursery, we understand that learning goes beyond the walls of our nursery. We understand the importance of hands-on experiences and the impact they have on a child's overall development. That's why we give paramount importance to outings as an integral part of our curriculum. Our outings are carefully designed to provide children with a well-rounded experience that encompasses not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills, social development, and a deep connection with the world around them.

"

The First Day Nursery is a lovely place for our little one to have fun, learn and develop. He is so excited each morning to go to his nursery and play with his friends including his caretakers. It feels really good to be greeted and treated so warmly by all the staff there. I would definitely recommend this nursery to all those parents who are looking for a safe, clean and fun place for their children

My child started to go to this nursery from the opening. My child is very happy to be there. Since she started to go on this nursery her speech has progressed a lot, she loves the food given. in the nursery, everything is organised on the way I do for my child at home! I am very happy and would strongly recommend
